- Co-Pilot
Co-PILOT is a Difficult Intubation Protocol aimed at ODPs / anaesthetic assistants.
It was developed by David Howarth, an ODP in North Wales. It is a cognitive tool that allows assistants to prepare and think ahead when the anaesthetist encounters a difficult intubation, and may have lost situational awareness.
The acronym stands for
- Confirm Failed Intubation,
- Propose other equipment/ aids,
- Immediate assistance,
- LMA (2nd Generation),
- Oxygenate,
- Tracheal access.
The protocol may be downloaded below. Please print and display for reference in each anaesthetic room.
